At the S.I.T. Foundation, we build Root Partnerships with organizations doing transformative work in communities. Adaptive Surf Project is one of those partners, and this year we were proud to support them during two important events.
The first was the launch of the East Coast'’s first radically inclusive beach access at 46th Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach. With accessible parking, ramps, beach matting, and beach wheelchairs available for use, this access point opened the shoreline to everyone. It was a powerful reminder that inclusion is more than infrastructure. It is freedom and dignity in action.
The second event was the Epic Wheel to Surf day in June 2025 at the same location. One hundred fifty volunteers came together to support seventy four adaptive surfers as they experienced the ocean in a way that many had never thought possible. The beach was alive with energy, teamwork, cheers, and joy. It showed what happens when communities remove barriers and create real access.
Adaptive Surf Project was founded in 2014 and has grown into a leader in adaptive sports. Through their “Wheel to Surf” program developed by Brock Johnson after experiencing life after his broken neck, ASP provides clinics, custom equipment, and international outreach, proving that surfing can be for everyone. Their mission is simple and inspiring: make the ocean a place of freedom, dignity, and joy for people of all abilities.
We are grateful for the leadership of Director Luke Sharp and the entire Adaptive Surf Project team. Their vision and commitment continue to expand access and opportunity for so many people.
At the S.I.T. Foundation, our role is to stand beside organizations like ASP, celebrate their work, and share their story. Root Partnerships like this show what happens when strong roots meet outward reaching branches. People flourish, communities connect, and change becomes real.
